The natural landscaping method of introducing native wildflowers and trees improves our environment. Avoiding the more stagnant overhybridized plant species and implementing those not far removed from their wild ancestors is the key to providing ecological services to our wildlife. With 19 native tree species to choose from, every contrasting habitat can be catered for. To illustrate the difference between the ecology of native and non-native species, consider the following. Our native oak and willow harbour over 450 species of insects, compared to the non-native but common sycamore providing services to only 43 insect species. Pollinators and pollination services are valued at €53 million in Ireland, not to mention the aesthetic, cultural, and educational values we depend on. The decline in many important pollinator species exposes our need of education to balance this negative effect.
